What is FLUX 3 Image Klein?
Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein on October 15, 2026 as the small, open member of its FLUX 3 family. A single 5.6B transformer does what used to take several models: text-to-image, single-image editing, and composition from up to ten references, with optional boxes that pin each object to a place in the frame. It runs on an 8GB graphics card in INT8, and BFL’s API serves it for about a cent an image.

Black Forest Labs’ examples state the change and then pin down everything else: “Restyle the room as a minimalist Japanese-inspired interior. Keep the room layout…”. Naming what must not move is what keeps a face, a product or a room intact.
Short instructions are fine
Klein expands every prompt with its upsampler before it draws, and when you edit it looks at your image while doing so. That is why BFL’s own “turn this into a figurine on a desk” works: the upsampler writes the long description of the mecha for you.
Replace text on a poster
Quote the old words and the new ones, and say the rest of the poster stays as it is. fal’s example swaps a title and subtitle and keeps every other line untouched.
Multi-reference: combine up to ten images
Attach the images in the order you will mention them. In the box above they are captioned image 1, image 2 and so on; write “the first image”, “the second image” in the prompt (the Diffusers code in the Hugging Face example uses <ref_image_0> tags for the same thing). Typical uses:
- A product from one photo placed into a lifestyle scene.
- A character or pet kept consistent across new settings.
- A logo or print applied to an object — the dog on the mug.
- A mood board: several references blended into one look.
When you attach several images, set the aspect ratio you want the result in; Klein will not guess it from the first image here.
Bounding boxes: put things where you want them
Klein can take up to 32 boxes, each with a label and a description. Write the label in angle brackets in the prompt — A red fox <fox> sits under a red umbrella <umbrella> — and each object is drawn inside its box; a box the prompt does not name is simply added to the scene. On an edit, a box can also point at an object in a reference image and move it, resize it, or, with no target, remove it.
The generator on this page does not draw boxes yet; the Layout boxes tab in the gallery shows the prompts and results from the API, with their tags, so you can see what the feature does before you use it through fal or ComfyUI.

Can I use FLUX 3 Klein commercially?
It depends on who you are if you run the weights yourself. Klein ships under the FLUX Kommunity License: individuals and companies with less than US$5 million in annual revenue may use it commercially for free; larger companies need a paid self-hosting license from Black Forest Labs or must use it through an API. Outputs may not be used to train a competing model. Images you make on this site are generated through fal’s hosted API.
How many reference images can FLUX 3 Klein use?

How do I write an edit prompt for Klein?
